Inside an art studio with three people working, artwork on the walls, and shelves filled with art supplies.

Welcome, Print Friend

Hello, Print Friend Studios is a traditional lithography studio and artist residency based in Chiang Mai.

A woman with short blonde hair, wearing glasses and a black shirt, is sitting at a wooden table drawing on a large foam piece with a black marker. The foam has some markings and writing on it. The table has various art supplies, including brushes, a ruler, and a cup of black ink. There is a large window in the background showing a street scene with bicycles, trees, and buildings outside.

The studio is led by master printer Tim Pauszek, who holds an MFA from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. Tim has worked extensively as both an artist and collaborative printer, bringing years of technical experience and a thoughtful, artist-centered approach to the residency. Working alongside him is Narit Tananon, a Chiang Mai-born printmaker and graduate of Chiang Mai Rajamangala University with a BFA in printmaking. Narit brings deep local knowledge, technical skill, and warmth to the studio environment, helping connect international artists to the creative communities and culture of Northern Thailand.

Together, the studio team works closely with resident artists to support projects ranging from first explorations in lithography to the production of professional print editions for exhibitions and collectors.

One man wears a black apron and has dark hair, while the other has glasses, tattoos on his arms, and a cap. The background features shelves with jars and containers, a whiteboard with notes and drawings, and a kitchen area.

We invite artists from around the world to slow down, work collaboratively, and create ambitious print projects with the support of experienced printers, dedicated studio time, and deep engagement with Northern Thailand’s culture, food, and artistic communities. Located within the Lightbulb Building, the studio exists as both a professional print workshop and a gathering place for artists interested in material-based practice, collaboration, and experimentation.

Traditional lithography is a printmaking process that draws images with grease onto limestone or metal plates, using the natural tension between oil and water to create prints. Developed in the late 18th century, lithography became one of the most important artistic and democratic image-making technologies in modern history. Artists including Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Pablo Picasso, Jasper Johns, and Robert Rauschenberg embraced the medium for its immediacy, richness of mark, and unique ability to capture drawing in all its subtlety and physicality.

Today, traditional lithography is increasingly rare due to the space, equipment, and technical knowledge required to sustain it. At Hello, Print Friend Studios, we are committed to preserving and advancing this collaborative practice while creating opportunities for contemporary artists to engage deeply with the medium.
